While I greatly appreciated seeing Calabria, the villages we saw really had little to offer from a touristic perspective. A nice castle ruin and an old town they are trying to promote for tourism. Clearly, that is the challenge in this part of Italy. That said, the people encounters and food were spectacular. I keep asking myself if this part of the trip should be continued and I guess it should. Calabria clearly lacks the “wow” factor of the rest of Italy and Puglia and Basilicata but I guess that is really what makes the visit worthwhile to put this region into context with the rest
